DAY 1 | Welcome to Cairo
On arrival, you’ll be met by our Cairo-based team and escorted to the 5-star Kempinski Nile Hotel to enjoy your AAA Vacations® Journey complimentary pre-tour overnight.
DAY 2 | Free day in Cairo
After breakfast, our AAA Vacations® Journey guests have this day to enjoy as they wish. Our other travelers arrive today. Meals B
DAY 3 | Extraordinary sites of antiquity
The ancient world comes to life as you explore today with our expert Egyptologist. Behold the Great Pyramids, gaze in wonder upon the Sphinx, and see the 4,600-year-old Solar Boat of King Cheops. A camel ride across the desert sands may strike you as a bit touristy, but we guarantee you’ll never forget the experience! Then travel to Memphis, Egypt’s ancient capital, to see the colossus of Ramses II and the beautiful Alabaster Sphinx. In Sakkara, you’ll be amazed by the Step Pyramid of King Zoser, Egypt’s oldest standing stone structure. Then tour the 4,000-year-0ld Tomb of Mehu, recently opened to visitors for the first time in 80 years! Lunch today will be at the landmark Mena House. Meals B+L
DAY 4 | Cairo and the Egyptian Museum
At the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, your guided visit reveals ancient artifacts that will deepen your appreciation of the sites you’ll explore along the Nile. Then ascend to the Citadel for fine views over the city. You’ll have time to browse in Old Cairo and its bazaar before returning to the Kempinski on the banks of the Nile. Meals B+L
DAY 5 | Board the Oberoi Philae
Fly to Luxor to board the stylish Oberoi Philae. After lunch in the dining room, the club-like Lounge or even al fresco, you’ll step ashore to explore Karnak Temple. With our skilled Egyptologist, stand before its massive pillars and admire the grand Hypostyle Hall. Built in the 14th century BC, the Luxor Temple is connected to the Karnak complex by the remarkable Avenue of Sphinxes. Meals B+L+D
DAY 6 | Valley of the Kings and Queens
Focusing on the West Bank, where 64 Egyptian rulers lie buried, today’s exploration includes the final resting place of King Tutankhamen and the tomb of Ramses VI, known for its impressively decorated interior. Along the road to the Valley of Kings, you’ll also marvel at the Colossi of Memnon, towering 75 feet above the desert sands. Equally as fascinating as these sites is the ancient village of Deir el-Medina, once home to the thousands of artisans and laborers who constructed these tombs and temples. Meals B+L+D
DAY 7 | Edfu and on to Kom Ombo
Step ashore in Edfu to visit the Temple of Haroeris; rich in design, intricate in detail and ingenious in its construction, the extraordinary quality of every element attests to the great importance of Haroeris, one of the oldest forms of Horus the falcon-headed Sun God. After lunch and afternoon tea onboard, step ashore to explore the unusual Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to both Horus and Sobek, the Crocodile God. Meals B+L+D
DAY 8 | Aswan High Dam
Exploration thus far has focused on the ancient world. But this morning, you’ll visit one of the engineering marvels of the modern era. Built in 1972, the High Dam at Aswan spans more than 2 miles and towers 300 feet! You’ll also visit the Temple of Philae and travel to the nearby granite quarry where the Unfinished Obelisk is still attached to bedrock. Meals B+L+D
DAY 9 | The Temples of Abu Simbel
Fly to Abu Simbel and tour the Temple of Ramses II. Carved from solid rock, the 67-foot high figures of the King are among the most impressive sites of antiquity. The story of how they were moved 200 feet above their original site to protect them from the Dam’s rising waters is itself remarkable! Then fly to Cairo where you’ll enjoy your final night at the Waldorf Astoria Heliopolis Towers, ideally located close to the airport. Meals B
DAY 10 | A fond farewell to Cairo
We’ll take you to the airport this morning for your onward flight. Meals B
