ITINERARY

Day One:
Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy

Step aboard and begin your journey. The ship will be berthed in Civitavecchia, the closest port to the airport and Rome. Relax and settle into your well-appointed stateroom, then unwind in our Infinity Pool. We’ll remain in port overnight, giving you the opportunity to dine ashore if you wish.

Day Two:
Rome, Italy

Explore the “Eternal City” today with a local guide. You’ll marvel at the magnificent Colosseum where gladiators once battled, visit the historic Roman Forum—gathering place and political center of the ancients, and try to glimpse the Pope while visiting Vatican City. You’ll also have the option to join one of Viking’s fascinating tours that highlight Rome’s treasures—or you can visit Tarquinia’s Etruscan necropolis or the excavated town of Ostia.

Day Three:
Sicily (Trapani), Italy

Today, you’ll experience the captivating highlights of Sicily. Along with rugged landscapes and passionate people, the island’s vibrant cuisine and the local fortified wine, known as Marsala, are sure to win you over. Sightseeing starts in the town of Trapani and might include a visit to the hilltop town of Erice—with its two castles and Chiesa Madre Gothic church—or a tour of Segesta, a key city to the indigenous Elymian people that boasts fine examples of Greek architecture.

Day Four:
Tunis (La Goulette), Tunisia

Exotic Tunisia welcomes visitors to North Africa with a host of enticing attractions. Shoppers will want to head to the medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the old quarter of Tunis, to explore the colorful souk that can be found amidst a maze of winding streets. For archaeology buffs, a visit to the extraordinary nearby ancient cities of Carthage and Kerkouane is a must.

Day Five:
Sardinia (Cagliari), Italy

Rich in history, Sardinia was settled by a wide range of people, including the Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, and Moors. Its main port, Cagliari, is set on the Golfo degli Angeli (“Gulf of Angels”) and lies adjacent to seaside lagoons that harbor a wide array of birdlife. Be sure to explore all of the sights in Cagliari’s old Castello District, including the 12th-century Cathedral of Santa Maria del Castello, the Roman Amphitheater, Porta Cristina, the Citadel of Museums, the Tower of St. Pancras, and the Elephant Tower.

Day Six:
Algiers, Algeria

In the old quarter of the dazzling whitewashed city of Algiers, shoppers can make wonderful discoveries among the stalls of the Casbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city’s historic center features a variety of landmarks. Take a walk in the Jardin d’Essai du Hamma, a 19th-century public garden, or explore the large collection at the National Museum of Fine Arts.

Day Seven:
Valencia, Spain

Spain’s Mediterranean port of Valencia is a mecca for lovers of one of the country’s most iconic dishes: paella—with restaurants throughout town offering many variations of the dish. Enjoy your selection with a glass of local wine, or sample the city’s other specialty: horchata, a thick, creamy, and sweet drink made from tiger nuts. You’ll also want to visit the famous Lladró porcelain factory, world-renowned for its imaginative and delicate figurines.

Day Eight:
Barcelona, Spain

In the morning, you’ll wake in Barcelona, where your cruise ends. If time allows, you can spend a few extra days to explore the city and its world-class culinary delights, or relax in other areas of Spain.
