ITINERARY

Day One:
Rome

Whether enjoying the street performers at the Spanish Steps and people-watching over a fine glass of wine in colorful Trastevere, or taking in the historical and architectural glory that is Rome, visitors are spoiled for choice in this truly Eternal City. St. Peter’s Basilica is a full-day outing, featuring the Sistine Chapel and panoramic city vistas for those willing to climb to the top of the dome. Other landmarks not to miss include the renowned Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum, and Aventine Hill, which provides you with a grand view of the imposing remains of the Imperial Palaces and the Circus Maximus, of Ben Hur fame.

Day Two:
Amalfi, Positano

Discover chic Positano with its relaxed, sophisticated air and white Moorish-style houses clinging to steep slopes around a sparkling bay filled with colorful fishing boats. Then visit enchanting Amalfi and admire the 12th-century Capuchin monastery and see the beautiful 11th-century Cathedral and cloister before exploring on your own. Browse Positano’s boutiques for the town’s locally made casual cotton clothes or search for unique souvenirs in Amalfi. Enjoy delicious fresh seafood and pasta or tempting pastries and espresso in a spectacular seaside, mountainous setting.

Day Three:
Lipari

Lipari is the largest of the Aeolian Islands, along the north coast of Sicily. Lipari’s landscape is stunning with Mount Chirica dominating the horizon. Visit the ruins of several towers and other medieval structures at the Archaeological Park, which also has an expansive museum with a beautiful collection of urns, along with galleries comprising of pottery from the 4th and 5th century B.C, when the Greeks occupied the area. Among the pristine beaches of Lipari are Spiaggia Bianca (White Beach) to the north of Canneto and Acquacalda (Warm Water) with its majestic white mountain that lords over the beach.

Day Four:
Sardinia

Savor this delightful old city spread over seven hills and its many attractions reflecting the influence of its numerous rulers. Climb to the citadel; visit the fabulous Archaeological Museum, Roman ruins and Pisan towers, early Byzantine churches, the Cathedral or the Botanic Gardens. Enjoy the nearby beach or discover the remains of Sardinia’s ancient, enigmatic Nuraghe culture, their villages and huge burial caves.

Day Five:
Palma de Mallorca

Mallorca, also known as Majorca, is a wind-swept island with steep jagged cliffs and olive groves more than a thousand years old. Mallorca is an island of contrasts. To the south is a busy tourist area with hotels, bars, restaurants, shopping and dazzling night life. To the north are rocky valleys, sleepy villages shrouded in bougainvillea, and breathtaking views. Palma is dominated by the breathtaking Gothic Cathedral, located high above the waterfront on the site of a former mosque.

Day Six:
Barcelona, Spain

One of Europe’s most visually stunning cities, Barcelona balances the medieval intimacy of its Gothic Quarter with the grace and distinction of the wide boulevards in the Moderniste Eixample. It was the home of architect Antoni Gaudí, whose Sagrada Familia Cathedral, Park Güell and Casa Milà are the most profound statements of Modernisme. View the splendid works at the Picasso Museum and the Miro Foundation, or discover Barcelona’s passionate ambiance at a flamenco show.

Day Seven:
Saint-Raphael

Along the famous stretch of coastline of the French Riviera lies Saint-Raphael. There is evidence that ancient Romans spent their summers in Saint-Raphael and now, 2,000 years later, guests get to rediscover its beauty for themselves. This sleepy town on the French Riviera is perfect for a relaxed view of the Côte d’Azur. Boasting 30 beaches that offer aquatic sports for every level and taste, as well as an extraordinary coastal footpath leading to the volcanic mountain range of the Esterel Massif, there are endless opportunities to explore the pristine shores of Saint-Raphael.

Day Eight:
Monte Carlo

Tiny, but packed with fun, Monte Carlo offers a wonderful combination of history, beauty, entertainment and leisure. The wealthiest spot in Monaco, Monte Carlo is an enchanting place, known as the international capital of luxury and for its celebrity-sightings, casinos and nightlife. Yet the old world shines through in its art and architecture. Palaces, cathedrals and museums dot this small municipality in an old town full of rich history. Be sure to catch the once-daily changing of the guard, then tour the public areas at the Palais du Prince, home to the royal family, whose most famous resident was famous actress Grace Kelly.
