At Azamara, we don’t take exploring lightly. So when we go to Greece, we leave no ancient stone unturned: four late stays, one overnight, and nine incredible ports of call to discover. We start in the place of myths and legends, Athens, where you can make your way through the heart of this ancient city, to fabled landmarks including the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Arch of Hadrian, and of course, the Acropolis.
You’ll want to linger in Spetses’ timeless piazza, but you’ll want to stroll beyond to take in this idyllic place: impressive villas, domed churches, and traditional tavernas. And because cars are banned, horse-drawn carriages are a common—and delightful—sight. When you close your eyes and picture Greece, it’s Mykonos you’re imagining. Bleach-white houses with brilliant blue shutters, vibrant bougainvillea, and iconic 16th century Venetian windmills in a row. Then, pretty Paros, with its stylish capital, fashionable resort towns and sweet rural villages.
With 10,000 years of history to explore, you’re going to need more time. And with Azamara’s signature longer stays, you’ve got it. One of the best-preserved medieval cities in all of Europe and a popular UNESCO World Heritage Site, in Rhodes you’ll find sandstone buildings, cobblestoned Street of the Knights, and charming turreted buildings. From there, it’s Agios Nikolaos, Crete, a charming fishing village with the glamor of a chic resort town. Then, Chania is waiting for you. Stroll through the old city and see a mixture of diverse civilizations throughout history, and Greek, Venetian, and Ottoman influences on every corner. We’ll take you from frescos to fishing, in Agios Nikolaos’ deepwater lake, right in the center of town.
Most of Greece will take your breath away, but the beautiful green island of Zakynthos, with its massive limestone cliffs and surreal turquoise waters, is truly spectacular. A late stay allows you to take it all in.
Igoumenitsa is a lush lively city where you can stroll the sandy stretches of Drepanos and Makrygiali or get in touch with its ancient past at the castle of Doliani or the Monasteries of Meteora, seemingly suspended in air.
Before arriving in Venice, our last stop takes us out of Greece and into paradise on earth: Dubrovnik, Croatia. A late stay here lets you explore the massive stonewalls of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll winding marble streets lined with historic monuments by day and return to town after sunset for dinner and music, an experience you don’t want to miss.
Finally, sail to Venice, a city of unmatched beauty, romance and charm. Ride a gondola, do some people watching in the Piazzo San Marco, and savor every delicious moment of this memorable voyage.
